You’ve taken the first step and made the decision to get dental implants. You now may be wondering what you can do to get ready for the procedure. When you schedule your appointment with us, we give you detailed instructions on what to do right up to the day of your surgery. Knowing what to expect can often help you get through the experience with greater confidence. At Central New England Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we can answer any questions or concerns you may have. Just give us a call. We're ready to help.

The Initial Evaluation For Dental Implants

During your initial consultation, we discuss the type of procedure required for your dental implants. In some cases, you may need to go through more than one procedure to complete the process. You may also require more than one type of dental specialist. During the consultation, we find out about any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications and supplements you take so proper care can be given to avoid complications.

Preparing For The Day Of The Procedure

After the initial consultation, we send home a list of things for you to do as prep work before your implant procedure. This usually includes fasting and getting plenty of rest the night before. It also helps if you prepare some soft foods to eat for a few days after the procedure. To assist with this, we provide a list of foods you can and shouldn’t eat until your jaw and implants have fully healed.

Aftercare

Once you get home, it’s important for you to get plenty of rest and to follow all of your dentists’ orders. We can provide you with a written excuse for work so you can take a few days off to heal. Drink plenty of fluids and take any medications as directed by your dentist.
